Visualizing Circuits

For circuit documentation (reference) see the TKET User Guide (pytket.circuit.Circuit).

Circuits written in code can be difficult to debug, especially once they’ve been compiled. The circuit visualizer provides an additional view for circuits which is better suited for debugging.

To visualize a circuit, first locate the owning project and find the circuit either through the resources tab, or as the ‘Submitted Circuit’ for a job item.

Visualisation of a single circuit.

The alternative way to view a circuit is as part of a compilation, which can also be accessed through the resources tab for the project, or as the result of a compilation job item.

Compilations in Nexus are stored with the original circuit, the intermediate circuits created by passes in the compilation process and the final output of the compilation process. When viewing the visualisation of a circuit, it is organised by pass, so the input circuit is listed as the Pass Input to the first compilation pass and the final, compiled circuit is the Pass Output of the final compilation pass.

To learn more about how compilation passes work in pytket see here.

The visualisation of the circuit and the options available are the same if it’s for a single circuit, or a compilation. The labels for each option will show on hover.

Circuit visualiser options

Option

Description

Render gates using zx styles

Collapse classical registers together

Display classical wires as a single wire.

Render nested circuits recursively

Display nested circuits recursively where possible.

Wrap circuit to fit display

Wrap the circuit to fit your display.

Dark mode

Default to dark mode if not in system theme mode.
